By Kilian to Launch 8th Scent, Expand Stateside Distribution

By Kilian, the niche perfume line launched last year at Bergdorf Goodman in the U.S. and Printemps in Paris, is revving up plans to expand its business in the U.S.

The first step: to launch in September an eighth scent, details of which are being kept under wraps for now by the brand’s founder, 36-year-old Kilian Hennessy, heir to the Hennessy cognac business.

Chanel to Cut 200 Jobs in France

PARIS — Chanel will lay off 200 employees here on Dec. 31, according to local press reports.

The workers said to be affected have either short-term contracts or are engaged on an interim basis. Workers in Chanel’s Verneuil-en-Halatte, France, location reportedly will be the most affected, while 16 employees in the company’s historic rue Cambon store are also said to be losing their jobs.

Walgreens Scaling Back

Walgreen Co. — the drugstore chain with 6,500-plus doors — will again pull back the reins on new store openings.

The company said Monday it will further reduce its organic (or nonacquisition-related) store openings to between 4 and 4.5 percent in 2010 and between 2.5 and 3 percent in 2011. Prada Promotes Amber Fragrance in Film
